OLIVIA EVELYN BOND / about

/ May 2026

I'm a VFX Producer by day and a writer by night.

Born and raised in New Zealand, I relocated to Vancouver at 21, and then to London at 22.

I self-published my first book, 'Drinking the Ocean', in 2019.

In 2021 I released my first studio album with UK rock band Giant Sky.

When the concept for The Dragonfly came to me in 2019, it was such a big idea. I didn't feel ready or capable of doing it justice.

For over six years I've world-built, drafted, and lost count of how many iterations I've written in service of the story.

Alongside that project, I've made time for other ideas that have been easier to tackle in the shorter term: various screenplays, short stories, essays. But The Dragonfly has always been the most important.

And now, it's ready. (And so am I.)

I live in North London and have two small children with my wife, as well as three cats (Maui, Luna and Tui) and a dog (Leyton).

I love my garden, making bread, cooking for my family, and dancing with my toddlers in the kitchen. I'm a certified introvert, though everyone who meets me doesn't believe that at first.

You'll catch me listening to Alcest on the way to work and Taylor Swift on the way home. The last show I went to was Erin LeCount at The Roundhouse in Camden.

My favourite book is Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl; I love reading a real-life hero's journey. My favourite poet is Janet Frame, a fellow New Zealander with red hair.

I love Mária Švarbová's photography, and my all-time favourite painter is a street artist called sweet toof. I have one of his painted skateboards hanging above the entry to my kitchen.

The most interesting project I ever worked on in my career was Disney's The Jungle Book (2016). I worked directly alongside the artists who made the entire tree, plant and flower library. The film won Best Visual Effects at the 89th Academy Awards.

The most defining moments of my life have been meeting my wife; losing my mum; and becoming a mum.

I mainly write at nighttime when everybody is asleep, as it's my only opportunity to be alone. Time loves to speed up while I work in the dark. It takes an enormous amount of restraint to stop... but knowing my kids will wake me at 6am will eventually be enough to put away my laptop.

At the moment, I'm working full-time at a London-based VFX studio on high-end film and episodic productions. My intention is to move away from VFX and write full-time.

That was always the dream, and I won't stop until I get there.
